Green Tree Ministries · Westbrook, Maine

We don't just talk about love. We live it out.

Green Tree Ministries is a modern-day well: Roots Café, a free library, and the Word of God — given away freely to our community and far beyond. Come draw from it, or help us keep it full.

The modern-day well

In the Bible, the well was where the whole town met.

People came to draw water — and stayed to talk, to trade, to be seen. Jesus himself sat down at a well to build a relationship with a stranger. That's the whole idea behind Roots Café — our home at 20 School Street.

One word sums up Green Tree Ministries: love. We don't want to just talk the talk — we want to live out love. So the coffee is organic, the library is free, the meeting room costs nothing, and the Bibles go home with anyone who wants one.

Why we give the Word away

God's Word changes lives. So we hand it out.

No sign-up, no sermon, no strings. A child's first Bible, a teen devotional, a big-print copy for a grandmother — free, every day we're open. We simply believe the Word of God does its own work once it's in someone's hands.

"It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit." Isaiah 55:11 — the verse this whole place runs on

The founder

"My heart has always been in Westbrook."

Faye Wilson dreamed of a place that would serve her community the way wells served in Scripture — nourishment, welcome, and the Word of God, all in one spot. In 2018 she opened the doors at 20 School Street: Roots Café up front, free Bibles and a lending library beside it, a meeting room anyone can use.

"We never could have dreamed we could have a location like this one," she said when it opened. "I am in shock and awe."
